AI chat · Dictation workflow

Dictate in Gemini Give Gemini the question you actually want answered.

Before speaking, decide the question, the context and the form of the answer. Dictate those into Gemini’s text box, add any exact source material, and review the prompt before submitting. A spoken draft is useful input; it does not make the resulting answer automatically correct.

An example to try

Compare two project approaches

You say

“compare the two rollout plans below for a small support team focus on setup work the risk of missed tickets and how easy it is to reverse the change make a short table then list the details you still need”

After release and transcription

Compare the two rollout plans below for a small support team. Focus on setup work, the risk of missed tickets, and how easy it is to reverse the change. Make a short table, then list the details you still need.

How to dictate in Gemini with VoiceSnap Pro

First install VoiceSnap Pro, sign in and complete the microphone and system-permission prompts. Then keep the app running while you write.

Read the getting-started guide
  1. Focus Gemini’s text box

Open gemini.google.com and click into the message box at the bottom. Choose the intended chat and check the caret. Use this regular text input for the draft-and-review workflow.

  2. Dictate one request

Hold Right Option on Mac or Right Alt on Windows, or your configured VoiceSnap Pro shortcut. State the question and constraints, then release. Wait for the text and add exact names, numbers and source material yourself.

  3. Check the prompt and response

Read the transcript before selecting Submit. If you need to revise a sent prompt, Gemini’s official guidance explains its Edit text and Update controls. Check the response against reliable sources before relying on it.

Three useful ways to write in Gemini

A comparison with useful criteria

Say the decision and what matters for it. Add the actual options or documents, then ask Gemini to identify gaps rather than invent the details you did not provide.

An explanation at the right level

Describe what you already understand and where you get stuck. Ask for one worked example so you can check whether the explanation addresses the exact difficulty.

A follow-up grounded in the answer

Dictate the part you want clarified and why. Paste a quotation or reference when wording matters instead of relying on a spoken description of a long passage.

The human part

Make the draft yours.

Paste both plans and check that the criteria match the decision. Verify any factual claim in the response before using it to choose an approach.

  • Keep one decision or question at the center of the prompt. Put separate tasks in separate drafts when their requirements differ.
  • Text dictation does not share your open browser tabs with Gemini. Add the context explicitly through the relevant Gemini controls.
  • If the cursor leaves the message box, focus it again before speaking. Use Paste last dictation to recover the transcript without repeating it.

Choose what fits

A text draft or a live spoken conversation

Google documents Gemini Live in Chrome for a spoken back-and-forth conversation where available. It has its own browser and permission requirements. For an editable text prompt, use the regular Gemini input with your computer’s dictation or VoiceSnap Pro.

Where VoiceSnap Pro fits

VoiceSnap Pro transcribes into the focused field and leaves submission to you. Its shortcut also works across your other writing tasks. It needs internet access and does not change Gemini’s account eligibility, model access or usage limits.
